How weighted grades work
Not all assignments count equally. A final exam might be worth 40% of your grade while a quiz counts for just 5%. A weighted grade accounts for this by multiplying each score by its weight before averaging.
The formula
For example: Quiz 1 = 90% (weight 10), Quiz 2 = 85% (weight 10), Midterm = 78% (weight 30), Paper = 92% (weight 20). Weighted average = (90×10 + 85×10 + 78×30 + 92×20) ÷ 70 = 84.3%.
Letter grade scale
This calculator shows the standard US letter grade: A (90–100), B (80–89), C (70–79), D (60–69), F (below 60). Some schools use +/− modifiers — check your syllabus.
